Holiday Gift Guide: To Groupon or Not to Groupon?
During the Holiday Season group buying sites like Groupon become more popular, helping people save money at the places where they buy their gifts. But is it okay to give someone a coupon as a gift without seeming cheap? To answer this question you have to first answer three different questions:
1. Is it a cheap or unexciting gift?
Group buying sites offer amazing discounts on expensive things, but they also offer discounts on smaller things. For example, the other day I recieved a notification from LivingSocial for 50% off on 5 Big Macs and 5 large fries from McDonald's. Although it's a good deal (and a bulk buy), it might not be the best gift for some people because they can go to a McDonald's whenever they want. The answer to giving coupons like this would normally be a "No". All in all it depends on the person. I'm sure Don Gorske would appreciate a McDonald's coupon like this very much.
2. Is it something they have to participate in?
Many times a week, group buying sites offer deals on activities like bowling, whale cruises, and trips to the spa. These types of coupons are usually okay to give as gifts because it can be something your gift recipient has always wanted to do or the activities are normally expensive. For example Groupon San Diego is currenlty offering $25 for a $65 ticket to the Poinsettia Bowl football game, $39 for a $110 fitness class, and $32 for $80 worth of hair treatments and wine at a salon. These are all examples of acceptable gifts and each group buying site has something for every budget. The answer to this question would be a "Yes".
3. Is it something you can do yourself?
Gift buying sites sometimes offer deals for merchandise at stores. Such as $48 for an $80 curling iron. While it would be acceptable to give the coupin directly to the gift recipient, it would be more courteous to use the coupon to buy the curling iron yourself and directly give the person their gift. The answer to this question could go both ways but it would be safer to go with "No".

Holiday Gift Guide: The Little Things
When buying gifts, we may feel obligated to buy expensive extravagant items especially for family members and close friends but what we don't realize is that little inexpensive items, depending on what they are, may have an even greater impact.
1. Handmade things:
There are times when you need to take it back to elementary school days when your gifts included pine cone ornaments and popsicle stick action figures.
Use one of your talents/hobbies or create something based on the interests of your "gift reciever". Bake some cookies for the foodie in your life, make a quilt for the sleepyheads you know, or paint a vase for the flower child next door.
Homemade Gifts Ideas
2. Gifted Memories:
Use items from memories that you share with someone.
For example, create a scrapbook from all of the pictures you have with each other, make a pillow out of your old baby blanket for your mom, or create a custom CD for your friend of your favorite songs from when you were younger.
3. Inside Jokes and Gifts for a Laugh:
Got a funny memory or know your friend's favorite childhood toy? Buy a fun gift for everyone you know. Does your dad keep talking about his favorite childhood cartoon? Buy him an action figure of the main character. Got a friend who loves bacon? Buy them some soap that smells like bacon.Your co-worker has never seen snow? How about snow in a can?

Holiday Gift Guide: Etsy
Hi everyone!
After a loooong break I have finally come back to you!
It is now the holiday season and everyday for the next few weeks we will be looking for gifts for everyone. After a lot of looking, it can be so frustrating! For the next few weeks I will posting new ways to get through your holiday shopping whether it's gifts for others, items for holiday parties, or pampering for yourself.
First on the list: Etsy's Facebook Gift Ideas.
Etsy has created a gift guide based on pages your Facebook friends have liked. After a few seconds of going through your friends, it pulls up a list of products related to each interest.
You have the option of viewing every match or filtering the results by price range.
This gift finder makes it so much easier to not only buy gifts, but to get a start on all holiday shopping.

Group Buying Sites
If you haven't had the chance to sign up for a group buying site, it's never too late to start.
Group buying websites such as Groupon, Yipit or Living Social allow discounts of crazy amounts (usually over 50% off) for stores, restaurants or activities in your city. Signing up is amazingly easy, all you do is enter your email and your city and right away you'll start recieving daily emails with deals.
When you see a deal you like, just buy it and print the voucher to bring to the store, salon, or wherever it's for.
But here's the catch, the deal is only valid if enough people also buy the deal i.e. the group buying part.
My first buy off of a group buying site was 50% off from the GAP. I paid $25 for $50 worth of stuff and instantly fell in love. So what are you waiting for?
Here a few sites to get you started:
Groupon
LivingSocial
Yipit
BuyWithMe

Nails- Newspaper
Hi everyone! I know it has been a long time since I last posted, school work has got me beat!
This time I tried my own versoin of the newspaper nail art design by CutePolish; a YouTuber who has the cutest and easiest nail art designs!
The polish I used is NYC in Taxi Yellow. This had to be the easiest art I have ever done! The only problem I had was nail polish coming off when I applied the newspaper. You have to make sure, you let the polish dry completely before using the newspaper or else it will smudge or come off.

Nails- Magazine Designers
For my newest nail art attempt, I tried magazine nails. It had to be one of the easiest designs I have ever tried and I love it for that.
All you have to do is cut words out of magazines (I chose some of my favorite designers and brands) and stick them onto your nails.
Before starting on my nails, I went through some old magazines and found all of the names I was looking for. I tried to keep all of the words on white backgrounds so the look would be uniform. Next I started with a base coat and once it dried I applied one thick coat of "Terracotta" nail lacquer by ORLY. As soon as I finished one hand, I used tweezers to gently press the words onto my nails. To make sure the ends stuck, I had to press the ends down for about 30 seconds.
To finish it all off and to make sure the words didn't come off, I topped it off with a clear coat by OPI.
This look lasted the longest out of any manicure I've ever done. It lasted 6 days with only minor chips near the top. The only problem was that after a shower, the words would sometimes lift off of my nails at the ends, so I had to add another top coat to the nails that had messed up, but other than that the maintenance was fairly easy.

Five Little Ways to Get Moving in a Busy Life for Free!
As we go further into the school year, between homework, jobs, and a social life, there are few oppurtunities for exercise (and let's admit it, working out only on the weekends isn't enough).
Here are a few simple ways to add a little movement in your everyday life.
1. Dance around a little- Take a little break from studying and dance around to your favorite song or create an upbeat playlist that you can dance to while cleaning. Not only will it get you moving, but it will put you in a better mood. When homework is frustrating you, taking a short dancing break will give you a small "Runner's High" which will help you stay focused on your work.
2. Tap it out- While reading, on the computer, or other activities that involve sitting for a while, fidget a little. Tap your foot, wiggle a little to some music, bounce your leg anything that involves small movements. Just make sure they are natural enough not to make you look like a crazy person! Research shows that fidgeters burn about 350 more calories a day than those who don't fidget.
3. Step to it- This is a workout that many people have used for many years: The step stool! I didn't think of the idea until using the step workout on the Wii Fit.
Think of how much time you spend watching TV; instead of sitting through the whole show or movie, take steps on and off the stool and if you're great at multi-tasking, do it while reading. (80s leotard not required)
4. Do it yourself- If you have younger siblings or cousins, then you may sometimes have them get things for you ("Can you go upstairs and get my phone?"). Get moving by getting things yourself; your family members will thank you.
5. Go the extra mile- Not literally of course, but this one's a no brainer. If you've got the time, walk to your destination instead of driving. Take the stairs instead of the escalator or elevator. Park farther away in the parking lot.
Staying healthy with a busy schedule can be difficult, but staying active can involve simple and short steps!

Campus Visit: UC Santa Barbara
Schwinn Women's Paisley Cruiser Bike - Teal (26") : Target
$200 - target.com
This is the second college we visited on our trip. This first thing we noticed about this campus is the millions of bike racks, the second thing we noticed explained it: it was absolutely HUGE! It was it's own city in itself and even had it's own private beach! This is a really good school for science based majors, but be careful (or not) because it's one of the top five party schools in the country!
And of course we went shopping afterwards (three cheers for the three stories Forever21)!
