New Uses for Peroxide

1. Whitening Teeth

For better results, whitening your teeth with peroxide requires two steps.

  • First: Brush your teeth with baking soda. Do this by either shaking baking soda onto a wet brush or by dipping a wet brush into a box of baking soda; whichever works best for you.
  • Second: Swish with a mixture of equal parts peroxide and water for two minutes.

2. Mouthwash

Swishing with an equal mix of water and peroxide can also help freshen breath.

3. Canker sores

When a painful canker sore pops up in your mouth, mix together an equal amount of peroxide and water use a cotton swab to dab the mixture onto the sore. You should see improvement of the sore within 24 hours.

4. Stain Removal

Besides using peroxide to remove blood from clothing, it also works for getting small spots off of white garments. Pour a small amount onto the stain and let it soak in and voila! The stain begins to lift before your eyes! Wash afterwards for full removal.
It also comes in handy when you're about to leave and notice a small stain on your clothes. Just put some peroxide on a cotton swab and apply to the stain to make it less noticeable.

5. Acne

To get rid of acne on your body in places such as your back or chest, don't spend money on fancy cleansers. Instead, create a daily regiment of rubbing alcohol and peroxide.

  • At night use a cotton ball to apply rubbing alcohol to your affected areas. Make sure to get the whole area (whole back/chest, etc) and not just the areas that are breaking out.
  • In the morning do the same but with peroxide.
The at night alcohol helps to clean out your pores and the peroxide in the morning kills any acne causing bacteria forming on the surface of your skin.

Prom Shopping Tip #2: Use Those Codes!

Prom is getting closer! If you plan on buying your dress, shoes, accessories, or anything else online, make sure you take advantage of coupon codes!

Yay for throwback magazine covers!
Make sure to use your social skills and sign up for emails, follow on twitter, or like on facebook the stores you are planning on shopping at. You'll be the first to know whenever they have sales, or coupon codes to save you money.
Also take advantage of your birthday. If you have a birthday in April or May, sign up for all the stores you can. Most stores send out special coupon codes just for your birthday.

Around this time of year, jewelry and beauty stores are flooded with prom shoppers and to bring in even more coupons and coupon codes are sent out all over the internet. Prom magazines are full of them. Special issues like Seventeen Prom and Teen Magazine Prom are full of coupin codes and contests on many of the pages. And make sure you pay attention to the ads. Some ads can be traded in for a makeover if you bring them to department store makeup counters or nationwide hair salons.

Last but not least don't make the mistake of buying something online for full price because you didn't get emailed a coupon code. Many people are kind enough to post coupon codes they received online for everyone to see. All you have to do is search on google (ex: "promgirl coupon codes" or "rent the runway coupon codes" etc.).

I hope these tips will help you and happy prom shopping!

Prom Shopping Tip #1: Can't Own It? Rent It!

It's prom season! If you haven't already started looking for your dress now is the time!
Many girls dream of the prom night as soon as they learn what it is (I was six and I saw it on the Rugrats) and all you want is for the night to be perfect right? Perfect dress, date, limo, the works. But many of us have one thing keeping us from that perfect night: Money. So what can you do to save money on your big night?
For those that have haute coture dreams and a retail budget, there is a miracle website called Rent the Runway.
Rent the Runway is an online store where you can rent designer clothes for 90% off retail price. Imagine wearing a $1,000 Herve Leger bandage dress for $100 or an $800 necklace for only $95. Sounds amazing right? It gets better. Once you find your dream dress, you simply reserve it up to six months in advance for the day of your event. They ship it to you two days before your event, and they pay for you to ship it back two days after. No dry cleaning needed! At first it may sound risky. There are so many things that could go wrong. What happens if what you order doesn't fit? What happened if you spill something on it or tear it? Well the ladies at Rent the Runway have all of that taken care of!
Before ordering your dress, check the sizing and fit tab. It uses as much detail as possible to let you know how the dress will fit. Whether you're worried about, height, hip size, bust size, body shape, they've got it all there for you. Once you do order your dress, you can automatically select a backup size at no cost to you. If the second dress still doesn't fit, you can send them back and your money will be refunded.
If you are worried about spilling something or tearing your rented item you can buy insurance for $12.
Rent the Runway also has a huge variety of jewelry, handbags, and wraps for the night.
Rent the Runway is an amazing website. And I should know; I wore an Herve Leger bandage dress for prom my junior year:
Searching for the perfect dress can't be any easier. You can narrow down your search by event, age, body type, length, size rental fee, date, color, neckline, embellishment, sleeve, style, and designer! And if you need any help you can chat with one of their stylits to find the perfect look for you!
So try Rent the Runway today!

Holiday Gift Guide: To Groupon or Not to Groupon?

During the Holiday Season group buying sites like Groupon become more popular, helping people save money at the places where they buy their gifts. But is it okay to give someone a coupon as a gift without seeming cheap? To answer this question you have to first answer three different questions:

1. Is it a cheap or unexciting gift?
Group buying sites offer amazing discounts on expensive things, but they also offer discounts on smaller things. For example, the other day I recieved a notification from LivingSocial for 50% off on 5 Big Macs and 5 large fries from McDonald's. Although it's a good deal (and a bulk buy), it might not be the best gift for some people because they can go to a McDonald's whenever they want. The answer to giving coupons like this would normally be a "No". All in all it depends on the person. I'm sure Don Gorske would appreciate a McDonald's coupon like this very much.

2. Is it something they have to participate in?
Many times a week, group buying sites offer deals on activities like bowling, whale cruises, and trips to the spa. These types of coupons are usually okay to give as gifts because it can be something your gift recipient has always wanted to do or the activities are normally expensive. For example Groupon San Diego is currenlty offering $25 for a $65 ticket to the Poinsettia Bowl football game, $39 for a $110 fitness class, and $32 for $80 worth of hair treatments and wine at a salon. These are all examples of acceptable gifts and each group buying site has something for every budget. The answer to this question would be a "Yes".

3. Is it something you can do yourself?
Gift buying sites sometimes offer deals for merchandise at stores.  Such as $48 for an $80 curling iron. While it would be acceptable to give the coupin directly to the gift recipient, it would be more courteous to use the coupon to buy the curling iron yourself and directly give the person their gift. The answer to this question could go both ways but it would be safer to go with "No".

Holiday Gift Guide: The Little Things

When buying gifts, we may feel obligated to buy expensive extravagant items especially for family members and close friends but what we don't realize is that little inexpensive items, depending on what they are, may have an even greater impact.

1. Handmade things:
There are times when you need to take it back to elementary school days when your gifts included pine cone ornaments and popsicle stick action figures.
Use one of your talents/hobbies or create something based on the interests of your "gift reciever". Bake some cookies for the foodie in your life, make a quilt for the sleepyheads you know, or paint a vase for the flower child next door.

2. Gifted Memories:
Use items from memories that you share with someone.
For example, create a scrapbook from all of the pictures you have with each other, make a pillow out of your old baby blanket for your mom, or create a custom CD for your friend of your favorite songs from when you were younger.

3. Inside Jokes and Gifts for a Laugh:
Got a funny memory or know your friend's favorite childhood toy? Buy a fun gift for everyone you know. Does your dad keep talking about his favorite childhood cartoon? Buy him an action figure of the main character. Got a friend who loves bacon? Buy them some soap that smells like bacon.Your co-worker has never seen snow? How about snow in a can?

Holiday Gift Guide: Etsy

Hi everyone!
After a loooong break I have finally come back to you!

It is now the holiday season and everyday for the next few weeks we will be looking for gifts for everyone. After a lot of looking, it can be so frustrating! For the next few weeks I will posting new ways to get through your holiday shopping whether it's gifts for others, items for holiday parties, or pampering for yourself.

First on the list: Etsy's Facebook Gift Ideas.

Etsy has created a gift guide based on pages your Facebook friends have liked. After a few seconds of going through your friends, it pulls up a list of products related to each interest.

You have the option of viewing every match or filtering the results by price range.
This gift finder makes it so much easier to not only buy gifts, but to get a start on all holiday shopping.

Group Buying Sites

If you haven't had the chance to sign up for a group buying site, it's never too late to start.
Group buying websites such as Groupon, Yipit or Living Social allow discounts of crazy amounts (usually over 50% off) for stores, restaurants or activities in your city. Signing up is amazingly easy, all you do is enter your email and your city and right away you'll start recieving daily emails with deals.
When you see a deal you like, just buy it and print the voucher to bring to the store, salon, or wherever it's for.
But here's the catch, the deal is only valid if enough people also buy the deal i.e. the group buying part.
My first buy off of a group buying site was 50% off from the GAP. I paid $25 for $50 worth of stuff and instantly fell in love. So what are you waiting for?
Here a few sites to get you started:
Groupon
LivingSocial
Yipit
BuyWithMe

Use Your Social Skills

Technology allows us to keep in touch with people all over the world and share our ideas. It also helps us become insiders with our favorites stores and designers. Being in on a secret sale or discount can be as simple as hitting "Like", "Follow", or "Subscribe".
The advantages of different social networking sites vary depending on the store. Stores on Facebook will usually tell their fans about sales before anyone else and offer contests only available to fans. Followers of stores, designers, and magazines on Twitter will usually receive special discount codes, tips on how to wear or use their product, and contests.
Many stores want people to sign up for their email lists so much that they offer a certain amount off of their next order. By receiving daily or weekly emails, you have access to secret sales, coupon codes, and sneak peeks at new collections. Email isn't the only mail you should subscribe to however. A store's catalog sometimes comes with a coupon or code to use on your next order.
